Impact Wrench Recommendation?

I use IR and I'm a fleet mechanic so it gets used often and hard. they work great for me. I don't have the cordless one yet but its on my list this Christmas.

The 1/2" rocks and the 1/4" milwaukee cordless as well

Well I went ahead and bought the Milwaukee Fuel 1/2" high torque cordless M18 impact a few days ago. This past weekend I did a few regears. I didnt want to get it dirty yet, and mostly used what is hard to dispute the highest torque 1/2" air impact, the aircat 1150. I run my air guns at 135PSI, for more torque. The manufactures recommend typ 80-120psi. SO at 135psi, it has to have more power I would assume.

last full axle I went ahead and used the cordless. I started with the air gun and a D60 pinion nut that was likely on there for 30+ years. The air was moving it but only slightly with each hit. Picked up the cordless and it did just as well or better. Did use it much on other items on the D60.

Went to the F9 drop out build. Used the cordless on most everything I would typically use the Air on. It seemed to have about the same overall power for about 10sec at a time. The battery I use is their full size and it was fully charged. After about 10sec of consistent use, it does seem to loose power and a full charged battery will drop one or two bars right after. Then within a few minutes the battery magically raises one bar back up in charge.

It is a bit heavier than my air. The sound is just as loud but a higher pitched ping not bang like air. But SIGNIFICANTLY quieter than the IR titanium I also have and regret buying.

I might go mobile in my Gear business and if I do I will still do a air setup of course. But I also will get a stock of batterys and likely move mostly to the the cordless. I would not have expected this type of torque from a cordless till I used it for my self.

Highly suggest the Milwaukee M18 Fuel high toque (NOT mini) 1/2" impact. I also have the M18 fuel 3/8" gun and have been using that for months and love it for the smaller size and no hose.

They make a 12v dc charger for the m18 batteries. Just an fyi. I have it for my trail tool setup.

Yeah I have one of those, but they take hour or so to even get a few bars of a charge.

I used the 1/2" m18 fuel impact to tear down an entire dana 30 on the rig itself, so everything from tires, brakes, tie rod, diffcover, down to the carrier , etc, in about 25 minutes. I was very happy. I now use it for everything. I don't run air tools, though, just a old snap on 110v impact.

I've had the 2763 1/2 18v fuel impact for close to 2 years now. I love it. They make a boot to go over it and like souske said, if you have a milwaukee repair center near you, they sometimes have "certified" used batteries for 25-40 bucks.

About to buy my first impact wrench. I see a huge selection, huge price and torque ranges at Northern tool, and Harbor has a nice special this weekend too. Too many choices.:roflmao:

My first use is to help loosen the rear leaf spring bolts on a 1987 XJ. I need something I can hold onto (my RA limits how much my hands can handle now days). And I need efficient use of what little air I have. I need something that the leaf spring bolts will respect, with out laughing off the planet LOL

The new fuel is out and even much more power than the other fuel of yesterday.... At 270ish it's well worth it.

Where are you finding it for ~$270?

Or what are you finding for ~$270?

I see the M18 2763-22 for ~$400: https://www.amazon.com/Milwaukee-2763-22-Inch-Impact-Wrench/dp/B00GFUA7FC

At that price I would be more inclined to spend another $65 and get the M28: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwauke...-Cordless-Impact-Wrench-Kit-0779-22/100595742

Am I missing a piece of this picture? M12 perhaps? But that is only 3/8".

And that is far better tool then their 28v crap. That m28 is a POS. lucky if it will removed stubborn lug nuts even...

Thats a tool only price not battery or charger that will set you back another 150 or so

Well everything I have is Milwaukee, so I have 6 batterys and charger.

Correct if you need everything, then it would be more. But worth every penny.

Only down side, is many here would likely be breaking bolt heads and stripping threads with that new Gen II gun. WAY to powerful for those that dont use a impact regularly lol..

No batteries. So it is a $400 tool.

I used their 28 volt tools to make a living for a number of years. By far the best cordless tools I ever used.

$220 for the tool and $95 for a Nice 5.0XC battery and charger, likely cheaper if you actually looked around, I just did a quick Amazon search.
https://www.amazon.com/Milwaukee-48...8&qid=1508339647&sr=8-11&keywords=m18+battery

So more like $315 for a complete ready to go kit.

And that M28 has 325ft-lbs Peak torque & 1400RPM.
THe Gen 2 M18 is at 1400 Ft-Lbs of peak torque & 1750RPM. HUGE difference.

If you have tje batteries its a great deal.

Personally i stay away from Amazon. Got tired of my stuff ariving late or not at all when i order through prime and their customer service amounts to "it sucks to be you heres a $5 gift card".
That and i like to keep my money local or buy from smaller vendors.

For that kind of money I can buy another jeep with good leaf springs, LOL.

I have been amazed by amazon prime service where I live. Saved a fortune, and get stuff in 1-2 days, unbroken.

Slightly-OT with the Amazon deal.
I have had minimal issues, 99.5% of the time items arrive promptly.

And, any time I have had an issue.. whether it be from amazon, or another seller the issue has also been resolved quickly.

Maybe your local deliver DGAF?
