Gear installation

I'm looking at installing new gears and a rear auburn limited slip in my '96 cherokee, automatic. Having never done this before, I was thinking of having the gears set up at a shop. What I'm finding though is that it's going to cost $800 to have $700 dollars worth of parts put on.

One, is this a normal install price?

Two, is there a web site which details setting up gears and reading the patterns?

Thanks,

Matt
